Power Generation
Pakistan's power generation relies on a mix of thermal (coal, gas, and oil), hydropower, nuclear, and renewable energy. The country has an installed capacity of around 44,000 MW, but actual production fluctuates due to fuel availability and infrastructure limitations. Thermal power contributes the most (around 60%), followed by hydropower (25%), nuclear (8%), and renewables (solar and wind). Major projects under CPEC, such as coal plants in Thar and hydropower dams, aim to reduce energy shortages. Despite improvements, Pakistan faces challenges like circular debt, transmission losses, and reliance on expensive imported fuels.

Noor Power
Khanewal Hydropower (Pvt) Ltd, a 1.8 MW project under Noor Power, is located on the Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC) at RD 604+250 in District Khanewal, Punjab. With a rated discharge of 1400 cusecs and a head of 2.97 meters, the plant operates with a plant factor exceeding 80%, ensuring year-round water availability. Project Update: The Letter of Intent (LOI) is issued, and the Bank Guarantee is submitted to PPDB. The SPV is registered with SECP and fully operational. The feasibility study is approved, and applications for Power Generation License, Upfront Tariff, and land acquisition are submitted to relevant authorities.
